How to Connect Your Trading Account to GaphyToro

Link your MT4 or MT5 account to GaphyToro in under two minutes — and fix the most common connection hiccups, from invalid credentials to server name mix-ups.

How to Connect Your Trading Account to GaphyToro

The fastest way to build an honest trading journal is to let it write itself. Connect your MetaTrader account once, and every trade you take — entries, exits, sizes, P&L — flows into GaphyToro automatically. No spreadsheets, no manual typing, no "I'll log it later."

This guide walks you through the connection step by step, then covers the handful of things that occasionally trip traders up.

Before you start: grab your investor password

GaphyToro connects with your account's investor password — the read-only credential every MT4 and MT5 account ships with. It can view your trades and history, but it can never place, modify, or close a trade. That's deliberate: your journal should watch your account, not touch it.

Where to find it:

  • From your broker. Most brokers show or let you set the investor password in their client portal, under your account's settings or credentials section. Your account welcome email often includes it too.
  • From the MT4/MT5 desktop terminal. Right-click your account in the Navigator and choose Change password, then set the investor (read only) password.
  • From the MT5 mobile app. Settings → your account → Change Password → Change Investor Password.

Important: your main trading password will not work here — and that's a feature, not a bug. If the connection says "invalid credentials," nine times out of ten it's the trading password being used where the investor password belongs.

Connecting your account, step by step

  1. Open Trading Accounts. In GaphyToro, head to your accounts area and choose to add a MetaTrader connection.
  2. Pick your platform. MT4 or MT5 — check the top of your MetaTrader terminal window if you're not sure which one your account runs on.
  3. Give it a label. Anything that helps you recognize it later — "FTMO Challenge", "Exness Live", "Demo — scalping".
  4. Enter your broker server. Start typing and pick your server from the suggestions. The server name must match exactly what your MetaTrader terminal shows in the bottom-right corner or on the login screen — for example Exness-MT5Real8, not just Exness.
  5. Enter your Login ID. This is the numeric account number from your broker.
  6. Enter the investor password and connect. Verification usually completes in moments; your balance and trade history follow shortly after.

If the connection doesn't go through

"Invalid credentials"

  • Wrong password type. The most common cause by far — use the investor password, not your trading password. See the section above for where to find it.
  • A stray space. Copy-pasting from a broker email sometimes drags a space along. Delete and retype the last character to be sure.
  • Recently changed password. If you changed your account passwords at the broker, the investor password may have been reset too. Set a fresh one and reconnect.

Wrong or missing server

  • Your broker may run dozens of servers — Real, Real2, Live8 and so on. Only the exact one your account lives on will work. Check your MetaTrader terminal's login screen or your broker welcome email, and pick the matching suggestion when you type.
  • If your server doesn't appear in the suggestions, type the full name exactly as your terminal shows it.

Login ID issues

  • Use the numeric MetaTrader account number, not your broker portal email or username.
  • If you hold several accounts with one broker, double-check you're pairing the right login with the right server.

Still stuck?

Message us from the in-app support chat or email support@gaphytoro.com with your broker name and platform (never send your passwords), and we'll get you connected.

What happens once you're connected

  • Your history arrives. Recent trades and account balance appear in your journal, and new trades are captured as you take them.
  • Every trade gets context. Add your thesis, mood, screenshots and strategy to the trades that matter — the numbers are already there.
  • Your analytics come alive. Win rate, profit factor, drawdown curves and your Gaphy Score all build from the real record, not from memory.

On Starter, you can keep one MetaTrader account connected — ideal for a single live or challenge account. On Pro, connections are unlimited, so every account you trade lives in one journal, with macro context layered onto every trade.

Create your journal or compare plans — and if you've just connected, go log the story behind your last trade while it's still fresh.
